Chico Lima is a brazilian performative artist, interested in the plurality of body and mind manifestations. He curently researches mainly the field of dance, theater and improvisation. Got his degree in Performing Arts in 2010 at Unicamp - Campinas State University (Brazil). He works and research within different performing art collectives and also develops his own research as an independent artist. Since 2006, when he was part of SeisAcessos, a research group related to the research of Marina Elias, professor at UFRJ - Rio de Janeiro Federal University, Lima studies improvisation in the performing arts (dance and theater). Founder of a theater company called Cia. de Teatro Acidental, where he acts in 3 pieces: “Mahagonny”, Bertolt Brecht; “Rhinoceros”, Eugéne Ionesco; and “What you are really doing is expecting the accident to happen”. At the beginning of 2009, he took part in KiM (Kosmos in Movement), physical theater and experimental dance workshop teached by Elias Cohen (Chile) e Se-Rok Park (Alemanha) at Isla del Sol, Bolívia. Still in 2009, Chico Lima got a DAAD scholarship to learn dance at Muse9, Palucca Schule Dresden Summer Workshop, in Germany, where he took improvisation, yoga and gyrokinesis classes with Ori Flomin (USA), Yossi Yungman (Israel) and Ivan Wolfe (Czech Republic), and by the end of that same year. In 2013, he was selected to be one of the artists to study at SMASH, experimental physical performance intensive workshop, that was held during 3 months in Berlin, where he had the opportunity to work with artists from different countries such as Dani Brown (EUA), Maria Scaroni (Italy), Diego Agulló (Spain), Lea Martini (Germany) e Matthieu Burner (France). He has also worked briefly with other artists in short workshops: Minako Seki (Butoh Dance; Japan), David Zambrano (Flying-Low and Passing Through; Venezuela/Netherlands), Nir De Volff (contemporary dance; Israel/Germany) and Dimitris Papaioannou (contemporary dance; Greece). Nowadays, Chico Lima works as an actor in Cia. de Teatro Acidental, performs with Grupo NUA and is a collaborator at Cia. Oito Nova Dança (brazilian dance company). He also is currently finishing his post-graduation in Laban/Bartenieff System at Faculdade Angel Vianna (Rio de Janeiro). In addition to those works, there's his independent solo dance work “Tentativas Contra o Vento” (Attempts Agains The Wind), produced with a grant from the State Government of São Paulo.
